AE TRANSLATOR (“App”) is provided by AETHERO s.r.o., Czech Republic (“we”, “us”, “our”).
This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and process data when merchants install and use the App in connection with their Shopify store.

If you are a merchant installing the App, you are the “Merchant” under this Policy.

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to data processed through the AE TRANSLATOR Shopify application available via the Shopify App Store.

The App is designed to translate Shopify store content (products, pages, blogs, and translations).
The App does not process or store end-customer (shopper) personal data.

2. Data We Collect and Process

2.1 Merchant and Store Data (via Shopify API)

When a Merchant installs the App, we access the following Shopify API scopes:

  • read_content

  • read_locales

  • read_products

  • read_translations

  • write_translations

This allows us to access and process:

  • Product titles and descriptions

  • Store pages and blog content

  • Store locales and languages

  • Existing translations

  • Writing translated content back to Shopify

We do not request access to:

  • Customers

  • Orders

  • Checkouts

  • Payment data

  • Any end-customer personally identifiable information (PII)

2.2 Authentication and Session Data

To provide secure access to the App, we store:

  • Shopify shop domain

  • OAuth state and granted scopes

  • Shopify access token

  • Staff user ID

  • Staff name and email address (for app access control and job attribution)

This data is used solely for authentication, authorization, and app functionality.

2.3 Translation and Job Data

For translation processing, we may temporarily process and store:

  • Content submitted for translation (e.g., product titles, descriptions, pages)

  • Source and target languages

  • Translation results

  • Translation rules and merchant-configured dictionary

  • Batch/job names

  • Job status, results, and error logs

  • Optional staff email for “batch completed” notifications

This data is used strictly to perform translation services and return results to Shopify.

2.4 API Settings and Configuration

Per merchant store, we may store:

  • Selected translation provider

  • Merchant-provided API keys (e.g., DeepL, OpenAI-compatible providers, Anthropic Claude)

  • SMTP credentials for sending translation completion emails

API keys and SMTP credentials are stored securely and used only:

  • To call the merchant’s chosen translation service

  • To send merchant-configured email notifications

We do not use these credentials for any other purpose.

3. End-Customer Data

AE TRANSLATOR does not collect, store, or process end-customer (shopper) data.

We do not access:

  • Customer names

  • Emails

  • Addresses

  • Order history

  • Checkout information

The App processes only merchant data and store content.

4. How We Use the Data

We use collected data solely to:

  • Authenticate merchants

  • Provide translation functionality

  • Write translations back to Shopify

  • Manage translation batches

  • Improve app reliability and performance

  • Provide technical support

We do not sell data.
We do not use merchant content for advertising or profiling.

5. Data Storage and Hosting

Primary hosting location:
European Union (Czech Republic)

Infrastructure provider:
Linode (Akamai Cloud Services)

We apply appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect data against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse.

6. Third-Party Services and Subprocessors

We may share data only as necessary to operate the App:

Shopify

  • OAuth authentication

  • Shopify API (content and translations)

  • Required webhooks for compliance

Translation Providers (only if enabled and configured by the Merchant using their own API keys)

  • DeepL

  • OpenAI or OpenAI-compatible APIs (e.g., DeepSeek)

  • Anthropic (Claude)

Content submitted for translation is transmitted to the selected provider solely for translation purposes.

Hosting

Linode (Akamai Cloud Services)
We do not share data with third parties for marketing purposes.

7. Data Retention

We retain merchant and translation data only as long as necessary to:

  • Provide translation services

  • Maintain app functionality

  • Comply with legal obligations

Upon app uninstallation, we delete or anonymize merchant data within a reasonable period, except where retention is required by law.

8. Merchant Rights

(GDPR and Applicable Laws)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or other jurisdictions with data protection laws, you may have rights including:

  • Right of access

  • Right to rectification

  • Right to erasure

  • Right to restriction of processing

  • Right to data portability

  • Right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority

We also comply with Shopify’s mandatory data protection webhooks for data access and erasure requests.

9. International Transfers

If translation providers process data outside the EU/EEA, transfers occur under appropriate safeguards in accordance with applicable data protection laws.

Merchants are responsible for ensuring that their selected translation provider complies with applicable laws.

10. Security

We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards including:

  • Encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS)

  • Secure storage of API credentials

  • Access controls

  • Logging and monitoring

However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.
